Bug Description

Ubuntu 9.04 x64
Kernel 2.6.28-12 I believe

When I plug my headset/mic combo in to a usb port, the computer recognizes the headset, but does not initiate the device with ALSA, I would have to switch to OSS to use the headset. I have a Genius product, but unfortunately, there are similar problems with Logitec headsets. The exact option for me in the Sound Preferences window for my set is:
"Elite Silicon USB Audio Device USB Audio (ALSA)" When I start a test, I get the following error;

"audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink: Could not open audio device for playback."

Also, when I try a sound capture test, I get the following error:
"gconfaudiosrc ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink profile=chat: Could not open audio device for playback."

Obviously, sound should be working without these errors, and with sound. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
