SD Card not mounted

I did a clean install of ubuntu 9.04 on an eeePC 901. In the SD Card slot there is a 16GB SD Card. I formated that drive as ext3 (and tried ext4 also) and gave it a mountpoint /home.
After installation and rebooting fsck reports that there is no drive available.
In /etc/fstab I tried the UUID and /dev/sdc1 but both fails while booting up.
Gnome then tells me at login that there is no /home directory for my user..

But I am able to "sudo mount -a" and then the drive is correctly mounted. It seems that the slot is coming up to late for mounting during boot.

I had install 8.04 and 8.10 on that laptop before. There it worked fine.

does ubuntu detect the drive but just does not mount it?

same problem on Eeepc 701. The card is deteted but i have to manualy mount it, however it is in fstab:

UUID=0bed50fc-aefb-4a86-a387-2c70cf4b981e / ext2 relatime,errors=remount-ro 0 1
UUID=89506ac3-3cc3-450d-938c-63c188a7cbcd /home ext4 relatime 0 2

IT seems the card is somteims detected (udev?) too late, and mounts hveen 'done' befor sd-card was up.

The reverd problem occurs in umountfs initscript:
 the card is not uounted at halt time.

i tried both syvinit and upstart: new results appears to me:
my sdcard is mounted always, but:

both (sysvinit and upstart) have the same behaviour:
sdcard seem not umounted before halt. So at every startup, the sd-card is fsck-ized.

I am estonished /etc/init.d/umountfs dos nothing on 'start' but umounts actually on 'stop' argument.

I lost 4 times my homedir (hopefully i have rsync backup elsewhere)
i consider this an important bug for me, so can someone tell me what (how to) trace i can give to fix it ?

attached is a syslog start. I did not found any hint in it...
