system freezes, update not possible

I can not see any connection between system freezing and programs running. During the last update (05/05/09) system crushed, after restart there where no updates to find!?

Are you using ext4? The 2.6.28 kernel has some known freezing issues with ext4, eg bug #330824 and bug #348731.

The latest kernel is 2.6.28-12 (and it should be more stable than 2.6.28-11) so there should definitely be updates available for you.
