Tracker applet fails to reindex after Jaunty upgrade and message box won't close

Bug Description

After upgrading to Jaunty on 2nd May, the Tracker applet wanted to reindex. It failed to reindex and popped up the message:

There was an error while performing indexing:
Index corrupted.

It gives me the option to 'Reindex all contents'. If I click that, the same message pops up again but also I get an 'are you sure' type of message (saying something about the length of time it takes to reindex) and I say yes it can reindex and the reindexing starts (but the initial message (above) doesn't go away). The reindexing fails again in the same way as before.

If I click OK or Cancel on the message box above (NB not sure what the difference between the two buttons is? I think that's a usability problem and there should probably only be an OK button?), the message box won't go away. Even if I click the x in the top-right corner, the message box won't go away.

In the meantime, trackerd and tracker-indexer processes are still running continuously. Only when I manually 'kill' the trackerd and tracker-indexer processes can I close the message box (and the tracker-applet process ends as well).

It's a Samsung Q35 laptop. I upgraded from Intrepid rather than doing a fresh installation.

I found the answer in other place. I put here because this message was killing me.
Open terminal and type:
$ sudo apt-get install tracker-utils
$ tracker-processes -r

This fix the problem.

Hey Laura, would you mind trying the package in my PPA rather than following workarounds that people are suggesting? Instructions, and details of what to expect can be found in my comment here:

Thanks! :)
