Search doesn't work on add/remove applications

Bug Description

When searching in the add/remove applications gui, the search doesn't return results, the upper part of the window remains grey, the lower part says "There is no matching application available", even when searching for things I know to exist (eg "inkscape" "frozen" (for Frozen Bubble), "wesnoth")

If I then click on a catagory in the menu to the left (eg games, graphics etc), the app I'm searching for will appear, and will then still be shown if I return to the "all" catagory.

I wondered if it was just loading slowly, but even after leaving it for a few minutes, there was still nothing displayed.

I have tested this on two machines - an HP nx7300 laptop, running Ubuntu 9.04 and an Asus Eee 901 netbook running Ubuntu 9.04 Netbook Remix.

I could reproduce this bug in 9.04:
1. search for: abcdefg
    -> no matching application found.
2. search for: wesnoth
    -> no matching application found.

It seems that once you hit: no matching application found, there is no turning back. I can't seem to get any other program to display.
