Bug Description

Using compiz with Focus stealing prevention set to Very High, new windows appear in front of the active window.

This could be a security vulnerability if I was typing sensitive data when focus was stolen.

That's very weird—as soon as I filed this bug, it stopped happening.

Enabling and disabling Click to focus may have done it. (Though there must be some sort of bug if changing an option and changing it back results in different behaviour.)

I have a possibly related issue with focus. Scenario is clicking a link in email (evolution) causing firefox to appear.

Focus Prevention: Off
Expected: Steals Focus
Actual: Steals Focus

Focus Prevention: Low (appears to be default when I enabled desktop effects)
Expected: Steals Focus
Actual: Steals Focus, but does not rise to top. Expected metacity-like behaviour where focus is stolen for some but not all windows (like gnome-terminal)

Focus Prevention: Normal (or higher)
Expected: Does not steal Focus
Actual: Does not steal Focus

This report is quite old. Is this still a problem? And for which releases/versions?

You can open a terminal (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal) and run the following to get the information needed:
lsb_release -rd
apt-cache policy compiz

affects: ubuntu → compiz (Ubuntu)
Changed in compiz (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete
