Bug Description

I'd updated from Intrepid.

I looked through the bugs that this web site suggested, but didn't see anything that helped -- in particular, I removed the word "splash" from /boot/grub/menu.lst, rebooted, and confirmed that no splash screen appeared; but I still have a blank screen.

Strangely, I see nothing in Xorg.0.log to suggest a problem.

For what it's worth: I originally experienced the problem using the default kernel -- 2.6.28-11-generic. Booting an older kernel -- 2.6.27-11-generic -- didn't help.

By the way -- the screen works OK in _console_ mode; it's only when X starts that it goes blank.

It doesn't even work if I boot from the live CD -- same behavior.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner.
There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test the current Ubuntu development version (10.10). If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running apport-collect <bug #>, and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

Sorry, but in order to reproduce this bug I'd have to reinstall
Intrepid and then retry the upgrade. I simply don't want to spend the
time doing that.
