Bug Description

I have an HP Elitebook 8530w laptop with Nvidia Quadro FX770M video card. After installing Jaunty, brightness control keys works well until I activated Nvidia proprietary driver, in the same way like in this bug report https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/207641

Thank you for information, i've already tried with 185.18.08, but there are still some problems, like dimm screen after suspend, appearance of black dots on screen, and brightness adjustment range very limited.

Also, the gnome brightness applet says "Cannot get laptop panel brightness".

Brightness applet, dimm display when idle as well brightness control after suspend work perfectly. on my 8530w.

but i got some kind of artefacts (little balck squares) after resuming from standby sometimes.

have you tried kernel 2.6.18-12, you got to enable unsupported repositories...

I haven't yet tried the new kernel, I will try when it will be moved in recommended repositories and then I will report if there was some improvement.

new Nvidia Driver 180.60 (which is now a stable release and no more beta) fixes problem too and runs even smother...

standby works perfect too now.

i am now even running on kernel 2.6.29.3 from:

Thank you for this info, I've installed the new driver and now stanby works well, there are no artefacts of any type, and brightness control works too (but I still get the message "Cannot get laptop panel brightness" from gnome brightness applet).
Thank you very much for helping me!
