Bug Description

I've just fresh installed Ubuntu 9.04 Janty Jackalope and I've found that the boot process takes over 5 minutes to complete.
My machine is an Acer Aspire 5510 laptop, 2 Ghz Pentium M, Intel chipset and wireless, and Radeon X700.
This machine always suffered an annoying problem, very slow transfer rates (4 to 8 Mb/s) and never burned a DVD as described here ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/119730/comments/81 ) but took one minute to boot in Intrepid Ibex.
At the beginning of the boot process the machine hung and stay frozen for a couple of minutes as you can see from dmesg:

[ 10.836019] intel8x0_measure_ac97_clock: measured 54086 usecs
[ 10.836022] intel8x0: clocking to 48000
[ 11.041545] Synaptics Touchpad, model: 1, fw: 5.9, id: 0x126eb1, caps: 0xa04713/0x4000
[ 11.076676] input: SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad as /devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input9
[ 189.357967] Adding 1461904k swap on /dev/sda2. Priority:-1 extents:1 across:1461904k
[ 189.886277] EXT3 FS on sda1, internal journal
[ 190.705883] kjournald starting. Commit interval 5 seconds
[ 190.706100] EXT3 FS on sda3, internal journal
[ 190.706105] EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode.

This is not the original behaviour, because on a fresh install the first message after the delay was:
lp: driver loaded but no devices found

I've removed lp from modules, and now the error is gone but not the delay.

There is another delay in dmesg but is almost unnoticeable during the boot:

[ 200.475979] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): eth0: link becomes ready
[ 209.280091] eth1: no IPv6 routers present
[ 210.676091] eth0: no IPv6 routers present
[ 348.783426] synaptics: using relaxed packet validation
[ 369.051774] CPU0 attaching NULL sched-domain.
[ 369.051892] CPU0 attaching NULL sched-domain.

I'm using the stock kernel:

Linux carlo-laptop 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:57:59 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

The complete dmesg is attached.
If you need more information, just ask.

Some people in the forums seems to have the same (or similar issues):

Thank you very much.

I've found a workaround.
The boot hang is caused by this bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/316405

Blacklisting SAA7134 solved the issue for now, marked as duplicate.

Yep, here the workaround:

$ sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
Add
blacklist saa7134
at the end of the conf file.
Save & Reboot (fast)

Of Course, your capture card won't work anymore.
