12 second timeout when booting after upgrade to Jaunty

Bug Description
After upgrading my system from 8.10 to 9.04 I now have a timeout of approximately 12 seconds during boot time. This delay appears right after the following string is displayed onscreen:
" checking if image is initramfs... it is "
My system is an AOpen MiniPC MP965-DR [1].
It's a Mini-ITX rig with the Intel GM965 chipset.
$ uname -a

$ lsb_release -rd
