vmware 1.0.9 won't install in Jaunty

After upgrading to 9.04 (desktop) RC, I attempted to install VMware Server 1.0.9 (VMware-server-1.0.9-156507.tar.gz). The installation failed while attempting to compile the required "vmmon" module. See the attached output.

uname -a output for my system:
Linux liberation 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:57:59 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make Ubuntu better. However, it seems that you are not using a software package provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. Grab the latest requirements:
apt-get install linux-source-2.6.28 linux-libc-dev xinetd

The latest VMware:
wget http://download3.vmware.com/software/vmserver/VMware-server-1.0.9-156507.tar.gz

and the latest patch:
http://www.insecure.ws/2008/10/20/vmware-specific-specific-55x-and-kernel-2627
