Bug Description

Request for Repository Change

The Korean Repository Server ( http://kr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ <http://kr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/> ) run by KAIST University, has been failing for awhile. The Server goes out at least twice a month, and that has been happening for two years; and last year (2008) there was an instance where the server was not working for over a month. With this constantly happening, the users doesn't have a complete opportunities to update their Distros. Therefore, the users only have half of the updates and the translations mixed up with English. When installing Ubuntu from fresh, this causes mixture for the translation between Korean and English, this is inconvenient for the first time user, and irritates most of the current users.

That is why we, Korean Ubuntu Team, would like to request repository change to the Main server. (http://archive.ubuntu.com <http://archive.ubuntu.com> )

Thank You,
Korean Team.

Yes. He's right.

I appreciate to the admin of the KAIST server.
However nowadays Kaist server isn't stable. So many users including me use ftp.daum.net or other server as the main repository server. And many users also recommend beginners to change their repository server.

I agree with the above statement. I fully understand how administrator of Kaist web server works hard on this; however, I think it needs to be more than just trying hard. So, I would suggest using the main repository on this matter or using the main repository and Daum’s server at the same time.

I can confirm this too. Now http://kr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ server isn't working. Until now ftp.daum.net server is working more flawlessly.

"Default Repository" is very important to beginner for applying Korean Translation to ubuntu. Because of this, most of Korean Linux user thinks "Ubuntu is very unstable distro." For stability, "Default Repository changing" is needed..

I've been using Ubuntu from 8.04 and YES, KAIST has problem with maintaining their server up and running.

Most newcomers have problem w/ server not allowing updates where it can be from partial or complete updates.

If they are lucky, and visit "Korean Ubuntu Forum", people there tell newcomers to change the server to "ftp.daum.net",
which, in my 2 years of experience, works very fast and never failed.

If you are the person who allows Repository Servers to be added or changed for each countries,
let me or people in "Korean Ubuntu Forum"(http://ubuntu.or.kr) know so that necessary change can be made.

Hey all
I was looking for a way to help you guys and the best way to deal with the issue is to send a email to <email address hidden>.
You can look at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage#Ubuntu%20mirror%20issues
as they dont track mirror issues in launchpad.
Cheers
Thanks and keep making ubuntu better!
