Bug Description

After manually running updates yesterday evening, I lost the ability to connect to my wireless.
It attempts to connect, then prompts me for the network key (which is already correct.) I click Ok and it times out again. Was working flawlessly before this last update. Wired network works fine.

I had the Broadcom "B43" Free wireless driver activated. Switching to the proprietary Broadcom driver resolved the problem; after activating it and rebooting, I notice the "B43" driver is missing from the Hardware Drivers list.

If this is just a matter of the driver being removed from the repos, then maybe notifying the user that "Hey - the driver you had activated has been pulled. Sorry for the inconvenience." or some such heads-up.

really fails, because the url http://downloads.openwrt.org/sources/wl_apsta-3.130.20.0.o from
/usr/share/b43-fwcutter/install_bcm43xx_firmware.sh doesn't work
but alternativelly, you can solve it here
http://www.omattos.com/broadcom/

try

cd /tmp
wget http://www.omattos.com/broadcom/b43-all-fw.tar.gz
tar -xvzf b43-all-fw.tar.gz
sudo cp b43-all-fw/* /lib/firmware/ -Rv

b43-phy0 warning: You are using an old firmware image. Support for old firmware will be removed in July 2008.
b43-phy0 warning: You must go to http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#devicefirmware and download the latest firmware (version 4).

any idea?

I have the latest 9.04 installed, and I don't see an option to activate the B43 driver. I look in Hardware Drivers and all I have listed for the wireless is "Broadcom STA Wireless Driver". What exactly do you want confirmed? That the B43 driver doesn't work, or that it was removed from the repos causing loss of connectivity?
