Bug Description

While ntp may be a great protocol, I find it quite bloated and slow for the simple purpose of just setting a local date and time to a reference clock. I do not need 20ms accuracy on a notebook's clock :-).
Thus I use(d) rdate, but the public rdate servers are slowly dying out. So I'm replacing it more and more with htpdate which works quite nicely. It's written in C and a perl alternative is available on the author's site.

It's under the GPL license, and available at http://www.clevervest.com/foswiki/bin/view/HTP/WebHome and attached.

Thanks for submitting this in efforts to help imporive ubuntu. First things first, Ubuntu and Debain both already have a package called htp. Usually when someone would like to make changes to ubuntu they will take advantage of using brainstorm [http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com] submit this type of Idea and then have the community and developers vote on it. I would recommend that you do that in this case. I also thought it would be good to let you know that they have a more current "C" version that is more http://www.clevervest.com/htp/archive/c/htpdate_1.0.4_i386.deb .

To submit this packaging request, I followed the guide at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/NewPackages

If that guide is misleading, please correct it. It was last updated 2008-12-07

I obviously searched my own apt installation in Intrepid, and found neither htp nor htpdate available. I also searched at http://packages.ubuntu.com/ for Jaunty, and it's not listed there.

From all I see and the process I followed, this packaging request is valid.

Well first off, I misread what you wrote and thought you were wanting to change the default timekeeping program. After re-reading it, I see you would just like to have it packaged for you and others that might need it. My mistake and I apologize.

There actually is an htp package in ubuntu, but it has nothing to do with time. I am surprised with how thorough you are that you didn't notice.

rmadison htp
       htp | 1.15-3 | dapper/universe | source, amd64, i386, powerpc
       htp | 1.15-3 | gutsy/universe | source, amd64, i386, powerpc
       htp | 1.16-2 | hardy/universe | source, amd64, i386
       htp | 1.16-2 | intrepid/universe | source, amd64, i386
       htp | 1.16-2 | jaunty/universe | source, amd64, i386

http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/allpackages reveals:
htp (1.16-2) [universe] An HTML pre-processor

So I guess htpdate would be a better name.

i will confirm that this is a valid packaging request. Hopefully your request will be filled. In the future try to bear in mind that if one of your requests is marked invalid, it can easily be updated to a different status.
