Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

for me the same problem started after i installed hippo i tunes manager, to put songs on my classic 80 gig ipod. i would have used the default program for ipod management, but when i tried to put new songs on my ipod it said something about a library error (which isn't my problem but is a side note). so using hippo i put about 12 gigs of music on my i pod, after which i ejected it and expected to listen to music. however when i ejected my ipod it gave me the same: "org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.UnknownError: An unknown error occured " message as previously reported. also upon further inspection, although was my ipod was devoid of all content, it is still full to 30 gigs. i cant listen to music or anything. Help?
(sorry if i filled this report weirdly but I'm new to this site)

I am using Ubuntu 9.04. I encounter the same error when trying to eject my iPod Classic 1st gen.

1. I right clicked on the iPod and clicked eject
2. It to eject without any error messages
3. It did eject but gave me an error message "org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.UnknownError: An unknown error occured"....however...after leaving the error message open for some time I received another message which could explain the problem. The new message was "DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken."

There is no real problem as the iPod seems to eject just fine however the error message is slightly annoying and I hope this can be fixed.

Thank you
