Hi,

I second this wish to backport alsa 1.0.18a.
I don't know if it is still feasible for Intrepid but at least for jaunty.

The 1.0.18 version fixes a lot of of things in the hda driver :

This bug has a status "Fix released" for alsa driver. But Jaunty doesn't have alsa 1.0.18a. Is there a mistake somewhere ?

Alsa 1.0.18a has been packaged in debian :
http://packages.debian.org/experimental/alsa-base

Current version in Jaunty seems to be 1.0.18rc3 :
$ cat /proc/asound/version
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.18rc3.

1.0.18a is mainly a bug fix release for 1.0.18.

Please could you consider update Jaunty alsa version 1.0.18a ?

I have just tested Alsa 1.0.18a with a fedora 11 live CD.
I was particularly interested by this fix (included in 1.0.18a) :

Thanks to this fix all people with Realtek ALC268 can enjoy their digital mics (integrated in their laptop).

This digital mic problem is the last thing that doesn't work with Realtek ALC268 codecs. See this bug :

May this bug should be re-affected to linux kernel or to linux-backport-module ?
Jaunty release is approaching fast and I really think that having alsa 1.0.18a would be great.
does anybody know how to make this moving on ?

jaunty already has a snapshot of 1.0.18 with selected quirks added from 1.0.19 and git HEAD.

Daniel,
Thanks a lot for your answer.
And sorry being a nuisance. I am waiting for one year and a half that the mic problem on my laptop is fixed. And now I know is it fixed upstream, I am a bit too impatient ! Sorry.

Could you consider backporting only the following fix for the mics ?
http://git.alsa-project.org/?p=alsa-kmirror.git;a=commit;h=2cc442715c45c88016c3c1c68e8828683d1b186a
This fix only add a new model (acer-dmic) for Realtek ALC268.
So the risks are low : The worst case is that this new model doesn't work at all. But in any case it won't create regressions.
Here is patch against the package linux 2.6.28-8.22 : The original fix apply cleanly. I have only fix the offsets.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi,

I still have the "no sound" problem with ALC268 but you guys seem to be focused on the mic problem. Does it mean that the sound problem has now been fixed? What steps should I follow in order to get the sound working?

Thank you for your help.

Alfonso
