Bug Description

Jaunty Alpha 1 Alternate install on IBM Thinkpad T40 no sound at all.
pulseaudio & pavucontrol
or
Applications Sound & Video Pulse Audio Volume Control
get
Connection failed: Connection refused
Same thing from pulse audio applet on desktop.

I've followed Pulse Audio Fixes
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=789578
up through Appendix A step 5 where the Connection failed occurs.

Anything anyone has for me to try or report on?

Thanks, Jerry

Have you tried starting/restarting the pulseaudio daemon?

Hi!

I currently face the "connection refused" problem under Jaunty 64-bit. I have an Nvidia sound card. If I try to run pulseaudio from the terminal or

$ pulseaudio

I: caps.c: Limited capabilities successfully to CAP_SYS_NICE.
I: caps.c: Dropping root privileges.

Also, if I try to run the script mentioned above, _both_ as a normal user and with sudo, I get:

Thank you for using the ALSA-Info Script

Anybody else having this problem?

Hi Jackphone,
You might try removing pulseaudio completely. set up everything to work through ALSA (the bit where you test the sounds, cant remember now as I'm not using ubuntu at the moment).

What does pulseaudio do anyway, and why did ubuntu (and most other desktop distros) adopt it so readily?

Regards,
Gary
