zamot, you have to download the script first from http://alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh
and then execute it...

also, you should add the line
options snd-usb-audio index=1
to the file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base

Thanks for the help, but I don't see how to download! Copy and past to the terminal? Copy and past to gedit? I am a completely beginner (well 6 months changing distros without success.
I already add the line you mention with gedit and followed all the other steps indicated in the wiki. Still not working. Well, it's not only the sound that doesn't work (also SD card reader, removable HD and webcam).
And, sorry, how do I attach the the results of the command lines? I can only see how to past here.

to download the script, just click on the link
to attach the results, copy from the terminal (command line) and paste into gedit. then save as a file and attach that file

good luck

Hello,

thank you very much for your patience. I understood how to attach, but not the download part. When I click on the link of course there's this html page that opens http://git.alsa-project.org/?p=alsa-driver.git;a=blob_plain;f=utils/alsa-info.sh
What should I do with that? Copy and past to gedit also? And save it somewhere?
I control perfectly everything that is graphical but command codes are new for me (with the exception of some dos commands that I learned a bit long time ago).

Thanks for the help

yes, copy-paste into gedit and save somewhere as alsa-info.sh
then you need to add execute permissions to the file:
open a terminal, cd to the directory where you saved it, and type "chmod +x alsa-info.sh"
then type ./alsa-info.sh

@zamot,

Since it seems you have a LG LW20 laptop I suggest adding the following line to the end of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base (assuming you are still using Intrepid Ibex):

options snd-hda-intel model=lg-lw

You can edit this using:

sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base

Please test and let me know if this helps.

Any of LG LW20 owners care to see if the above fix resolves the problem?
