Bug Description

Creative Zen Mozaic running on Intrepid requires root privileges to connect. I tried Gnomad2, Amarok and Rhythmbox and all of them required to be run using the gksudo command to be able to detect my Mozaic.

I also have a regular Creative Zen which had no problems being detected by both Amarok and Gnomad2 without running as root.

This bug should be solved in the latest libmtp7 package. If not, please paste the output of the „lsusb” command.

You can use gnomad2 and amarok (with configuration)

Here is the solution (in french) to use it as User and not root

See the part specific for Creative Zen Mosaic, it's easy to do.

In that case I'm marking this bug as Fix Released since it seems the Zen Mozaic wasn't supported by the libmtp version included in Intrepid, but is in the version included in Karmic. If you do experience this problem again, please reopen the bug and attach the output of mtp-detect, with the Zen Mozaic connected.
Thanks for your input.

Are you a member of the group audio? If you're not sure you could paste the output of the command "groups $USER" to get a list of groups you're a member of.

It seems that you're not a member of the 'audio' group. Would you please try the following?
Go to System->Manage->Users and groups->Manage groups
Select 'audio' and press Edit.
Now add yourself to the group and log out and back in. What happens if you try to use your device now?

I wish that being a member of the audio group was a little more apparent to the user. I'm not sure how this can be done. We probably don't to automatically add anyone to the audio group.

Maybe a piece of information or a popup post install that could give the instruction on adding members to the audio group or something?

darksaga: I think that membership of the 'audio' doesn't matter that much after all.
What could be causing your problems is something else keeping the device busy. Is the MP3-player mounted to the desktop, i.e. is there an icon on the desktop of the Zen?
