Bug Description

Situation : Intrepid system update from an Hardy previous version. AMD64 architecture.

I use compiz. When the first user is logged (compiz), the second one uses the GNOME switcher applet. It is OK for logging.

If the second user is connected for a short time - a few minutes - it is OK : you can come back with the GNOME switcher applet.

But he is connected for a long time - about one hour - and you try ti get back with the applet, the system hangs (with a dark screen). Nothing to do to unlock (ctrl - alt - Fn doesn't work, etc.).

I have to hard reset... arrghh

This is a very blocking bug.

Let me know if you need more informations...

Thanks and good luck,

PK

See bug 890661 - seems to be a similar problem with a somewhat better description. Please accept my apology if this is not the case.

Switch to the terminal (Ctrl + Alt + F6) and back (Ctrl + Alt + F7) to see if it will give your display back. Also, try waiting for up to 5 minutes for your display to show. I would also suggest monitoring system CPU during this time to find out if it is being 100% used and which process is using it.
