Bug Description

Download http://icculus.org/prey/downloads/prey-demo-installer-10232008.bin, right-click go to properties, permissions, make it executable, and double-click to start. You then get a "There is no application installed for this file type" error.

Running the program via the terminal makes it work fine.

Good day,

The file will open if you remove the file extension and have it marked executable. This behavior is probably by design. If someone accidentally marks a file such as a .png as executable they still expect it to open in an image viewer, not try to run and give an error. The file manager does not differentiate.

If you feel this is in error, please feel free to reopen the bug. Thanks!

No I wouldn't, but what else are .bins opened with usually?

I can't think of anything but actually executing a .bin (binary) file.
