Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Could you please also try to run without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf and let Xorg autodetect your display and video card? Please also attach the /var/log/Xorg.0.log from this attempt.

You may also want to include any missing information from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting , in particular, that information requested at "X crash, lockup, freeze, exit, or doesn't start/shutdown"

Thanks in advance.

Ok today i tryed to do upgrade and get this Upgrading may reduce desktop effects, and performance in games and other graphically intensive programs.

This computer is currently using the NVIDIA 'nvidia' graphics driver. No version of this driver is available that works with your video card in Ubuntu 8.10.

Do you want to continue? so Im just going to stay unless the put the old restricted Nvidia-glx driver back it the system. My Geforce 2 go work just fine on xubuntu 8.04 lts so there i will stay till its fixed plus i like the network manager better 8.10 dont let me manual config my wireless network but i am running 8.10 kubuntu on my desktop no problems other then the network don't like cant seem to manually configure it my dad uses it and i dont like having to come and connect it for him

Please make sure that you have the "intrepid-security" and "intrepid-updates" repositories enabled. The first 96* series driver that worked with the Intrepid Xorg was 96.43.09, which is available in the update repositories. The information above indicates you're still using 96.43.05.

The message you're reporting also indicates you're still using the default version of jockey which had the 96 and older series of drivers blacklisted. Again, the solution is to add in the updates repositories and make sure you're fully updated.

Yes, when Intrepid went live, legacy drivers were not working, but this has been fixed and 8.10 is fully usable with the drivers in the main updates repositories.

Since the hardware is no longer available for doing troubleshooting with, we'll have to close the bug for now. However please feel free to reopen if you or anyone else has the same HW and can reproduce this issue using the latest development version of Ubuntu and is willing to do some troubleshooting with it.
