Bug Description

A DBus error window pops up whenever I put in a CD in the drive. After clicking OK on the window, the CD gets mounted normally and I can do all my stuff.

Description: Ubuntu 8.10
Release: 8.10

Output of uname:
Linux mark2 2.6.27-7-generic #1 SMP Thu Oct 30 04:12:22 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Nothing. I recently realized that I was no longer getting this error when using CDs and DVDs and decided to report as such.

I also get this error here at my girl friends notebook.
A few days ago everything worked without problems. Now I get exact the same error message like shown on the screenshot.

It's really annoying. My own notebook has the same hardware and mounts CDs like a dream.

I got the window again when I tried to use a damaged CD. So my uneducated guess is this error comes when the OS is not able to read some data off the disc sectors. I lightly sandpapered an unwanted CD and tried it and found this is replicable. It might depend on the sensitivity of the drive reading the disc and hence the same disc might not give error in one machine but do so in a second machine.

Hi Rohit,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 291876

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
