Bug Description

user@computer:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 8.10
Release: 8.10

user@computer:~$ uname -a
Linux lbci-desktop 2.6.27-7-generic #1 SMP Fri Oct 24 06:42:44 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

user@computer:~$ lspci -vv

 Subsystem: Netgear Device 5e00
 Control: I/O- Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV+ VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR+ FastB2B- DisINTx-
 Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- INTx-

 Capabilities: <access denied>
 Kernel driver in use: ath_pci
 Kernel modules: ath_pci

If I deactivate/reactivate Atheros under Hardware Drivers and select Network Manager it logs in fine using saved information. Or if I modprobe ath_pci and wait a few seconds, it logs in as well. Note: My system worked under versions 8.04release and 8.10beta, however 8.10alpha, 8.10rc, and 8.10release it hasnt worked.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it without more information.

Please include the following additional information, if you have not already done so (pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command "uname -a" in your next response. It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command "dmesg > dmesg.log" after a fresh boot and attach the resulting file "dmesg.log" to this bug report.
3. Please run the command "sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log" and attach the resulting file "lspci-vvnn.log" to this bug report.

My apologies... this version of the lspc-vvnn.log file is ran with sudo to get the most information as well as being ran prior to loading ath_pci module manually.

FYI... It appears the latest backports package has fixed the problem for me.

To use this:
1) Select System->Administration->Software Sources (or select Settings->Repositories in Synaptic)
2) Select Updates tab
3) Select "Unsupported updates (intrepid-backports)"
4) Search for the package "linux-backports-modules-intrepid" (It is a meta-package)
5) Install it
