Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it without more information.

Please include the following additional information, if you have not already done so (pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command "uname -a" in your next response. It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command "dmesg > dmesg.log" after a fresh boot and attach the resulting file "dmesg.log" to this bug report.
3. Please run the command "sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log" and attach the resulting file "lspci-vvnn.log" to this bug report.

For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-related bug reports is available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies Thanks in advance!

same issue, but strange behavior since audio works at boot process and some time after it doesn't play any sound

I'm experiencing similar simptoms.

I filed a bug report here (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/296513)

I attached, there, a lot of stuff, uname, asound/cards, var/log/messages and I don't remember what else.

I don't know wether it's a duplicate because I'm not getting any dialog window claiming any error from the System-> preferences -> audio panel.

The similarity is this:
W: ltdl-bind-now.c: Failed to find original dlopen loader.
main.c: setrlimit(RLIMIT_NICE, (31, 31)) failed: Operation not permitted
main.c: setrlimit(RLIMIT_RTPRIO, (9, 9)) failed: Operation not permitted

and of course, no sound at all.

Sorry, I forgot I have a HAD Intel as a sound card, not the ICH7 as in the subject.

Thanks

I solved, it's working for me, now.

Just run "alsamixer -Dhw" and double check that the PCM volume is not set to 0. Mine was.

Just raise it and you'll hear sounds againg.

So the error messages from pulseaudio were not related to this, it seems.

I'm a bit surprised; some of the gurus reading the bug reports could have warned us.

There are plenty of bug reports of no sound after upgradind to Intrepid Ibex.

This works perfectly for me. But will this work after reboot or does
this need to be configured every time after boot up?

Another couple of data points...

I have the problem with two of my machines. One with ICH6 and another with an internal Audigy 2. Same thing. Sound works fine when I first boot up, then stops working completely at some point.

Following the advice above, I've checked alsamixer to make sure sliders are up and outputs unmuted. No go. I also have the latest version of alsa-oss installed, according to apt-get install.

I don't have any evidence and can't produce / reproduce this at will, but I highly suspect that it has something to do with Flash.

Had the same problem, sound not audible after it working for some time, had installed gsopcast, it worked after that too, not sure what happened either reboot or some key combination caused the audio to not sound. Many sites point to basic troubleshooting that include alsamixer with no option. The solution suggested with options -Dhw found the PCM was set to 0, increasing it turned the audio on.

Thanks!
