Bug Description

Apt-zeroconf is an extension to apt which enables it to find other instances on the LAN in order to exchange debian package files and not to fetch them from the internet.

There's already an ITP in Debian: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=456815

apt-zeroconf has already been packaged by upstream, so this merely needs repository inclusion:
    * tgz: http://phidev.info/azc/apt-zeroconf_0.4.1.tar.gz
    * deb: http://phidev.info/azc/apt-zeroconf_0.4.1_all.deb
    * dsc: http://phidev.info/azc/apt-zeroconf_0.4.1.dsc

There's also a forum topic discussing using apt-zeroconf by default: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=796883 I don't intend to make this bug report about that - just about getting apt-zeroconf in the repositories.

There's also a blueprint: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/apt-zeroconf

This bug is tagged needs-packaging which identifies it as a request for a new package in Ubuntu. As a part of the managing needs-packaging bug reports specification, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/Specs/NeedsPackagingBugs, all needs-packaging bug reports have Wishlist importance. Subsequently, I'm setting this bug's status to Wishlist.

What is this project's status ?

Looks dead upstream. Last release in Dec '07. Trac unavailable.

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

Changed in ubuntu:
status: New → Confirmed

Looks dead again. https://launchpad.net/apt-zeroconf says use squid-deb-proxy which is packaged.

Changed in ubuntu:
status: Confirmed → Invalid
