I love that software, but as it already comes as a deb, and I don't see any tarball with the sources, it will be impossible to package.

So can you please provide a link to the sources, and I will be delighted to package it. Or write the author of this software to submit his packaging to REVU.
Thanks.

Hi Fabrice,

I manually create the deb package using fakeroot and dpkg. I will put up my source tree this evening and provide a link to it.

I'd love to be able to create a true debian source package and if anyone can tell me how to do that I will do it immediately.

Its just scripts so there is no compilation required. Would the tree that I use to make the deb package manually be enough?

I'm new to deb packaging as I've been a long time Slackware guy but these days all I use is Ubuntu and variants which is why I wrote remastersys for it.
Regards,
Tony

Hi Tony and welcome! :-)

You can find the packaging guide at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/Contributing#Preparing%20New%20Packages (I'm sure it will be easy for you :-) )
Or you can find me in IRC, in the ubuntu-motu channel (No, I'm not a MOTU).

Anyway, when you will published your source, I'll have a look at the debian directory, and I'll send you some comments :-)

Emanuele from the MOTU group has already contacted me about it as well. I'm going to email him the source as well as put it up on my repo.

Thanks

I emailed the tree I build the deb file from manually to Emanuele just now.

I have sent the tarball I have on but haven't heard anything back since.

If anyone can point to to a howto on creating a debian source package for a script, I'd be happy to set it up and then it would be ready.

Most of the source package stuff I have found related to making packages from binary source packages with Makefile's but I'm at a loss for creating something for a script.

I have all the relevant pieces so I'm sure it wouldn't be hard but I need some help or guidance in how to get there.

Hi,
All you need to write is the rules file, that make everything, in you case, installing the script in the correct place.

You can have some help in the #ubuntu-motu irc channel. I'm there also :-)

I finally was able to make a proper source package as I found a tutorial on how to do this with a script package. It was quite easy but getting started was the hard part - lol.

I emailed the source tarball and dsc file to Emanuele a few days ago when I finished with it.

It was of the newly released 2.0.11 version of remastersys.
