Bug Description

The following happend with intrepid daily-live 20080813.3 (amd64):

- I booted my system from the cd, choosing german as language in the boot-up menu.
- After the system was up, I started firefox
- While typing my email adress to login to launchpad, I noticed that it was not possible to type the "@" character. Usually you do this on a german keyboard by pressing AltGr+Q
- So I investigated a bit and found out, that pressing the AltGr key had the same effect than pressing enter. So also none of the other character that are typed by pressing AltGr + another Key (like the Euro sign) could be typed.
- Also I noticed soon that the arrow keys didn't work (nothing happend when I pressed one of them)
- I tried to correct this by playing around a little bit with System -> preferences -> keyboard settings but had no success. The keyboard layout was correctly set to german (the keys to enter umlauts as "ü" etc. did also work fine), as keyboard model "evdev-manged keyboard" was chosen. Setting the model to Generic-105-pc didn't help.

Strangely, the keyboard workes completely normal again on the new installed system.

Kind regards,
Jan

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The problem sounds a lot like the issue in bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/255008

A fix was released (13 Aug.) with the package gnome-settings-daemon - 2.23.6-0ubuntu2.

The problem should be corrected if you try a newer LiveCD. If not feel free to open a new bug report.
