Sound stops working after suspend and resume on Acer Aspire One

Bug Description

In 8.04.1 with all of the latest updates suspending an resuming will cause sound to fail. Mixers look fine, and applications do not complain but no sound is heard. Rebooting will correct the issue. Manually running sudo alsa suspend and sudo alsa resume does work. Attached is what I believe to be the required information. The notebook uses the hda-intel driver with a Realtek ALC268 codec.

Quite possibly, I did not notice anything in there. I included it for completion as far as the bug report goes.

I can confirm the problem for an Aspire One A150L. But it's probably a duplicate of Bug 200210, not a problem specific to the Aspire One.

Fix: Add "options snd_hda_intel model=acer" to /etc/modprobe.d/options and reboot. Sound should then work after suspend/hibernate.
"acer" works for me, but probably is not the best choice (only tried two). See 200210 for more details, including link to other option values.

jfouchard, can you confirm this works for you?

I also loose sound on return from hibernate on a desktop pc.
Hardy 64Bit - Asus M3A78-EH
It has integrated sound from SBx00 Azalia, ATI Technologies Inc (ASUSTeK Computer Inc.)
Rebooting restores sound.

Marking back to being filed against Linux package. It's not an alsa-driver package. This driver is in the kernel source.

Should be fixed in 8.10 (but certainly in alsa-kernel git).

Does gxine play sound after resuming from suspend to ram? Do other applications work after playing by gxine?

As expected, gxine doesn't help. Is there anything special about gxine?

I've been running fine with above mentioned fix (option to snd_hda_intel module), only problem is that plugging in a headphone doesn't turn off the loudspeaker (and the volume can't be set independently). I'd be nice if someone else could confirm if this works for them.

For me playing gxine helps. I am not saying gxine is the only application that has this effect. See bug #277686

This is still a problem on current fully updated intrepid.

Above fix did the trick for me.
