Bug Description

I've downloaded ubuntu-8.04.1-dvd-i386.iso image from here: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/8.04/release/

I run md5sum on downloaded image and had a positive result.

However after a dvd was burned Windows produces "Invalid CD Detected" error on any DVD load. Though if ignoring the error message, the DVD is accessible through Windows Explorer, on any attempt to run either autorun.inf or umenu.exe manualy the same error is produced.

I get the same poor result burning the image on two (2) different boxes with different hardware sets, DVD burners (one from NEC another from Sony) and burning software (Brasero, Gnome CD Creator, Nero and Dell Sony Roxio Suite).

I burned all DVDs with both available in Nero speeds - 6x and 8x. I also used 2 different speeds while burning with Sony software.

In all tests I used 3 different types of media from different manufacturers: Taiyo Yuden DVD-R 8X, Optodisk DVD-RW and Verbatim DVD+RW.

I also burned the image producing the same error under both Windows XP SP3 and Hardy Heron 8.04.

For the test purposes I burned ubuntu-8.04-dvd-i386.iso image (previous version) on the same set of hardware, using same software and media as above, and under the same OSs.

The "Invalid CD Detected" problem did not show up with any of the DVDs burned.

Wubi DVD ISOs are not supported in 8.04, support might be added in 8.10.

Was this an error - to include umenu.exe on the DVD? Umenu.exe does work with the 8.04.1 liveCD, is there a technical reason why it does not work on the DVD & if so can it be modified to work in 8.04.1 or perhaps 8.04.2?

Umenu.exe should be either fixed or if it cannot it should be removed from the DVD.

happens in Jaunty Alpha4 on a CD (not DVD) which passes the media test. umenu.exe has a timestamp of "Thursday, September 18, 2008, 9:14:44 AM". Screenshot of error message attached.

Happens in Kubuntu Jaunty Alpha 5 on a CD, md5 is ok too.

Is this something one should expect to be fixed only in the final release just because 'kids shouldn't be using wubi with alpha releases anyway'?

Thanks in advance
