Bug Description

Hi I cannot execute a binary file on AMD64 version

I have 3 issues

1) I had previously used drapper drake, and it was one of he best distributions I have worked with
However after making a clean installation of Hardy Heron 8.0.5 I cannot execute the binary file crclient, which enables me to connect to the internet
The command is specifically
$./crclient

So I cannot upgrade and cannot use any other command

2) Also the sudo command gives and error message "host not found $HOSTNAME"
I wonder how come sudo command started looking up valid hostnames ?
What type of security fix is this ?
So I cannot even sudo and change the hostname in my /etc/hosts

3) The apt-get dist-upgarde was very pathetic

I used the alternative CD for cdrom upgrade
It rendered my system completely useless
lost all my Ubuntu tweaks which I made to install oracle
And after booting I was not able to use a proper driver and the GUI did not respond my USB Keyboard

All in all the distributions useless for me, I will format it and install Drapper Drake was extremely satisfied with that.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Hardy Heron 8.0.5 ?
Isn't there any other way for you to connect to the internet? Is crclient supported by Ubuntu?

found out what the issue, crclient (binary) uses 32 bit libraries,
thats why it gave file not found error, cause it could not locate the shared object (.so) file.

Drapper drake x64 comes with the 32 bit libraries, by default.

While Hardy Heron x64 does not come with 32 bit libraries, so I cannot execute a 32 bit executable (./crclient) unless I install 32 bit libraries. However, I need the internet connection to download the ia32 libs.
Since crclient itself is responsible for me connect to internet. I was stuck

I have installed 32 bit version of 8.0.5 right now, eventhough I have a love of x64 systems, their issues and definitely their speed.

x64 will be the future and 32bit will be a history, until then Ubuntu is fine.

Wish some one could get an alternate CD for x64 with ia32 libs on the same CD.
and do make some improvements to the alternate CD installation :)

I will try that with jigdo.
