Open tvtime or any other tv application and watch tv, since my PC has a tv tuner card.

My tv tuner is recognised immediately after ubuntu installation as SAA7133/SAA7135 device, also saa7134 module and related are loaded, but these kind of drivers does not support it.

Follows lspci output for card.

Vendor/Product id are: 1043:48ae

I can't see it on http://www.mjmwired.net/kernel/Documentation/video4linux/CARDLIST.saa7134 and in fact it doesn't works.

I've done a lot of tests, settings and also googled a lot, but either i cannot be able to make it works neither i've found any informations.

I really hope it will be supported soon, but in the meantime you should not install an useless driver at least.

I'm sorry, i've not found out witch package SAA713x drivers belong to, it should be linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-16-generic, but i'm not sure.

Hi Maurizio.cas,

I glanced at the saa7134 driver in Intrepid and it appears your card is still not supported. Beginning with the Intrepid Ibex 8.10 development cycle the linux-ubuntu-modules package was actually merged with the linux kernel package. Going forward, bugs that would have been reported against linux-ubuntu-modules should now just be reported against linux. I'll go ahead and update this to the 'linux' task. Thanks.

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

Hi,

I had some problems to make the test. The packages available for version 2.6.27 are missing those for third-party modules, and the live CD freezes during startup.

However i've installed packages that i found for rc3, i could not open tvtime due to the lack of graphics card driver, but I have noticed that the output of lspci has remained unchanged:

Multimedia controller: Philips Semiconductors SAA7133/SAA7135 Video Broadcast Decoder (rev d1)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.. Unknown device 48ae

Does it suffices to say that the problem remained with this version?

[UPDATE] sudo modprobe saa7134 card=109

Now it works fine. (both audio and video)
I've tested this only with the new kernel (2.6.27-7-generic).
However without specifying insmod options the card is recognized as GENERIC/UNKNOWN, (even with i2c_scan=1)

Mauricio, maybe this is now another bug:
tv tuner card with saa7134 not detected automatically
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/86217

This problem is fixed, no?

You are right, now the issue is the same that in https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/86217, except for the card/tuner model.

Should i update the description/title?

@maurizio - please attach the output of

dmesg > dmesg.txt

I'm curious if you are seeing the manual configuration message from the driver, e.g., "Congratulations! Your TV card vendor saved a few cents for a eeprom" ...
