Unable to install updates / packages

Bug Description

I suspect this could be duplicate of this bug : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/217788 , but I'm not sure of it.

This bug is a security vulnerability since if one cant install latest updates, how could one's system be secure.

Note : Due to a improper shut down, there was a error in my disk which had to be corrected using fsck. Could this have corrupted the OS, so that nothing can be installed or updated in it?

This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in apt.
