PS/2 mouse pointer moving very slowly sometimes?

Bug Description

Perhaps 50% of the time when I boot Kubuntu the mouse pointer will move very
slowly with no acceleration. This persists until I reboot which usually fixes
the issue. I can of course change the pointer acceleration in the mouse
settings but obviously this is far from ideal. The mouse in question is a
Microsoft Intellimouse. This problem only seems to occur when using PS/2
connecter for the mouse and not with USB. I am running latest breezy i386.
Mobo is Asus K8V SE Deluxe with AMD 64 3000+

Is there any particular reason why you're using i386 Ubuntu rather than amd64
Ubuntu? Does the problem also exist with the amd64 edition?

I was under the impression that driver support and so on is not up to the level of i386. I will
install amd64 edition tomorrow to test.

If you know of any documents which contain this misinformation, please try to
get them corrected. This is not, nor has it ever been, true. If anything, the
driver support for amd64 is _better_ in the amd64 version. It contains drivers
specifically for amd64 hardware which don't exist on i386.

Is this still an issue with Dapper or Edgy?
