Bug Description

When pressing "Exit" button at the gnome-panel, or via System --> Exit, or just pressing "Power off" laptop button, pop-up menu does not contain "Shut down" option at all (see the attachment, Russian language). Same thing in gdm-menu while logging in: there is no such an option as "shut down".
Bug came up after updating from 7.10 to 8.04 version of Ubuntu (both 64-bit version)

Hardware: intel 945GM chipset (Acer TravelMate 4233WLMi)

Is the "Show Actions menu" option enabled in gdmsetup? Seems like this option is somehow linked to the logout window options: the "Shut Down" and "Restart" buttons do not get displayed if this option has been turned off. At least that is the case on my laptop with Hardy installed.

That's true. After enabling this option everything works in a right way. Thanks a lot!
But anyway I don't understand how it's connected to this gdmsetup option. What an unexpected solution! =)

I agree, it is rather strange. If it's meant to be a feature i would like to know the reasoning behind it. Anyone?

Sorry for the "me too" but after much searching I found this report. Firstly, am pleased to say shutdown button is now available, after selecting "show actions menu". What worries me is that the button was available before (in 8.04 if I recall correctly) and something had reset a value such that it didn't appear.
My machine, a 64 bit AMD / generic desktop with 8.04 Hardy installed.

Can you try Intrepid Live CD if this is still an issue? It comes out after tomorrow.
