Screen sleep doesn't recover on my tx1000

Bug Description

When the screen goes blank after a white after the screensaver session when the computer has been idle for a while, I'm unable to recover the screen. It's just black with the background light on.

The machine is an HP tx1270eo; Hibernate works, suspend doesn't work (though that's not fully the exact problem here). The difference between suspend and when the screen goes to sleep, is that for the latter, I have still access to the system, i.e. I can restart X (and I regain the screen then), on suspend, I can't do anything. Have tried both the nv and the nvidia-glx-new driver, both borks.

System is Hardy 8.04.
