Bug Description

Hi.

I've installed UBUNTU 8.04 on a Dell Optiplex GX150 in my lab, to make a server for my department. Unfortunatly the USB sticks (I've tried several) does not automount. I stick it in, it flashes up, but nothing happens. They work on my laptop (ubu 8.04 RC) and my home desktop (Ubu 7.10) too.
Any suggestions?

Bye,

Gergő

Here's my dmesg from the time I put in the stick (I have no CD-ROM drive, but I know on a hard-ware level that it uses a similar transfer bus to PATA for the front ports, but this problem occurs on the back USB ports as well).

It's funny that there is not a single "USB" word in my dmseg report.

I have the same issue. Dmesg output is also:
UDF-fs: No partition found (1)
ISOFS: Unable to identify CD-ROM format.

Note that the same stick worked on my desktop PC (Kubuntu 7.10) but not on my laptop (Kubuntu 8.04).

Hi.

I think I found the problem. This solution worked for me anyway. There was an entry in /etc/fstab:
/dev/sdc1 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0

However, /dev/sdc1 is the USB pen drive, so now it's obvious why I didn't work. I just commented out the above line, and the CD-ROM still functions.
Hope this helps..

My fstab does not contain /dev/sdc line
I tried to comment out the /dev/scd0 line, the cd-rom worked well afterwards, but there was still no usb stick automount.

I had a variation of the same problem when doing a clean install of Ubuntu 8.04 on my Linux Certified Laptop (after a messed-up upgrade). The first stick I inserted wouldn't mount, but the second one would (as long as the first was still in), as /dev/sdc1. I found a line in /etc/fstab for /dev/sdb as a CD-ROM drive, commented it out, and now the first USB stick automounts as /dev/sdb1 with no trouble. In fact, I can mount two USB sticks at once.
