Bug Description

to reproduce:
 1. install kubuntu 8.0.4
 2. remove openoffice: sudo aptitude purge openoffice.org-base
 3. a ncurses window telling me to choose the british locale, or to manually symlink (no idea what I should do here, so I choose british, even though I want US)

locale warnings when using aptitude:

perl: warning: Setting locale failed.
perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:
        LANGUAGE = "",
        LC_ALL = (unset),
        LANG = "en_US.UTF-8"
    are supported and installed on your system.
perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C").
locale: Cannot set LC_CTYPE to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_MESSAGES to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such file or directory

I am assigning this report to the openoffice.org source package.

What did the ncurses window say at the top of the window? I am pretty sure this bug is unrelated to openoffice.org

Changed in openoffice.org:
status: New → Incomplete

I tried to reproduce it in VMWare but had no luck. I don't want to reinstall it on my PC, so this is "fixed" or "cannot reproduce" from my point of view.

Anyway, a few aptitude update and aptitude safe-upgrade later (in the original problematic installation) fixed the issue.
