Ubuntu 22.04 LTS fully updated.

Video audio remained playing but mouse dead, keyboard dead. The only way to get control of laptop back was to hard power off.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Libera.chat.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2068808/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner.

Please note that the Ubuntu project cannot support packages which are not available in the Ubuntu
repositories such as Google Chrome. Is this still an issue or was the problem a 'one-off'?

Changed in ubuntu:
status: New → Incomplete

summary: - Total OS lockup - Had to hard power off \ on.
+ Total OS lockup - Had to hard power off / on.

Hiya,

I do this particular procedure almost every day (i.e. watch a movie using VLC from a NTFS external USB drive) and so far it hasn't happened again.

Lesley.

I would hardly call an app causing the entire operating system to die "invalid".

That is *not* what I said.

Google Chrome is not supported by the Ubuntu project so we can't help
if that locks up your computer. If an application supplied by Ubuntu
causes a similar problem then please let us know.

You said that the problem hasn't happened again so there is little point
in keeping the report open as you can't reproduce the problem. What is
there to fix now?

'Invalid' is the best option to close this. Please feel free to change
the status to whatever you feel is more appropriate.
