Bug Description

steps to reproduce

1.) install a fresh 24.04 ubuntu

2.) change /etc/gdm3/custom.conf to
a.) enable autologin
b.) disable Wayland so you have entries like these:

WaylandEnable=false
AutomaticLoginEnable = true
AutomaticLogin = user1

3.) install thonny - as an example app (apt-get install thonny)

4.) reboot system

5.) start firefox or any other app in full screen mode

6.) start thonny

7.) maximize thonny window

8.) click into the shell tab at the bottom of thonny

for unclear reasons you are switched to firefox

the problem does not occur on wayland.

the problem also does not occur if autologin is turned off

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Libera.chat.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2066227/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

In the absence of any action in response to comment #1 I'm moving this to the gnome-shell package so that it at least comes to the attention of Ubuntu's Desktop Team.

@thomaskr, please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

  apport-collect 2066898

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.
