System freeze during shutdown with an empty screen with gnome's background image

Bug Description

Hardy Beta clean install.

System freezes during shutdown, after closing all applications and the panel, it leaves me with an empty screen with gnome's background image and stays there forever.

If I kill X (ctrl-alt-backspace) then shutdown proceeds and terminates.

Also if I shutdown from a console (ctrl-alt-f2, shutdown -h now) it works.

The problem is reproducible 100% of the time. It has been happening since my initial Beta install, and the daily updates have not fixed it.

This is with Hardy _AMD64, NVIDIA 8600 with nvidia-glx-new and compiz, setup using "Desktop effects" with no extra tweakings.

Not really sure if this is a gnome problem or an X problem.

Confirmed - I am experiencing precisely the same issue. In my case I can make the shutdown continue by pressing the power button (triggering an ACPI shutdown event). My setup

Hardy Beta AMD64
nVidia 7900GT with nvidia-glx-new, compiz turned on

This problem first appeared in the last few days, after some updates (as far as I can tell).

Confirmed - I thought I am crazy cause nobody else experienced this problem... I have this bug or whatever since the 14.03...

I am running Hardy x86 (Beta) with a nVidia 8800GTS (G92) with nvidia-glx-new and compiz turned on!
When I try to disable compiz (system -> appearence) it did not change anything! Same with manually removing the nvidia-entries from the xorg...

Hi guys,

I did a search about this problems on launchpad and found the following bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/keytouch/+bug/186713/
For me the removal of keytouch solved the problem!

Hey thanks for advising, I *do* have keytouch installed but didn't notice a link between it and the problem!
I'll try removing it and retest.
