Hi ! I'm totally new to the Ubuntu community, and I'm looking for a start point. This one seems quite easy to handle, can you tell me where and how I should begin ?

Hello!

Thanks for your commitment. First of all: I don't really know about the world of debian/ubuntu packaging, but we need three different packages:

- one for flabber, the console programme
- one for glabber, the additional GUI, written in python too
- one or more as language packages

For the beginning, I recommend you to start with a simple package for flabber. If you don't know the further steps, ask the mentor "Emilio Pozuelo Monfort".

Have a look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PackagingGuide and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PackagingGuide/Python, and feel free to ask any questions either here, or preferably in #ubuntu-motu or in the motu-mentors mailing list.

Regarding the package split, special packages for the translations sound overkilling. As it seems you are using gettext, we could ship the .mo files with the flabber/glabber packages, so two packages would be enough. What do you think?

In this case, that's okay. I thought in the packaging guide is declared that we have to split the packages for translations. But if this is incorrect, your suggestion is great.

That's wrong, if you can find any place which mentions that let me know.

Cheers!
