Bug Description

While using my computer, since switching to Nouveou driver I get randomly logged out.
I used to use the NVidia drivers, but a few months back I could no longer connect to my external monitor. The Nouveou driver works beautifully, except for this random logout bug.

This other bug I filed https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-signed-lowlatency/+bug/2026652, may or may not be related.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
    ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself.

@vanvugt I have 20 files in the /var/crash folder, should I ~upload~ `ubuntu-bug XXX.crash` them all?

Thanks. The gnome-shell crash causing a logout is likely this one:

https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/176dba84-25e6-11ee-a439-fa163e993415

which is being tracked in bug 1497593 already. It's been a known problem with nouveau for years unfortunately, and is one of the reasons I don't recommend anyone use nouveau.

That might be fixed in the coming driver update:

If you find the external monitor issue is still not fixed in Nvidia driver 535.86.05 then please open a bug about it while you have the driver installed.
