Bug Description

When I put the computer to sleep, there are small display glitches for a few seconds. Then, when I wake from sleep mode, my desktop and opened windows show up for a few seconds before the login screen.

Thanks for the bug report.

Can you please attach a photo to confirm whether the system is waking to the lock screen or login screen?

If it's really the login screen then please check for crashes by:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_a_crash_report_or_having_a_.crash_attachment

no longer affects: xorg (Ubuntu)
Changed in gnome-shell (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete

Only the last one in that list is a shell crash (in April 2021) and it's being tracked in bug 1782984.

This bug is separate. If you can't reproduce this bug anymore then it will close automatically after two months (unless more comments are added).

affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) → ubuntu

First, it seems that a new bug happened yesterday :

https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/4a86e064-230a-11ed-a5d0-fa163e55efd0

Second, I succedded to "reproduce" the bug, but not completely. All I had to do is turning my computer to sleep while using Google Chrome. There is little display bug for a second before entering standby. But when I turn it on, open windows are not displayed, but another problem occurs, which is the following:

My login screen is displayed, I can enter my password, but I cannot validate it. When I press ENTER, nothing happens (I can still edit my password).

On the other hand, I noticed that the wallpaper is not the usual gray background, but the blurred wallpaper of my desktop.

If I press the button to switch users, and I re-select my profile, everything becomes functional again (with gray background ^^).

Unfortunately the link in comment #5 is the crash reporting tool crashing. Reviewing the list of all crash reports from the same machine shows no shell crashes since April 2021.

Please try removing any extensions you might have:

  cd ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/
  rm -rf extensions

and then log in again. If the bug still occurs after that then next time it happens please run:

  journalctl -b0 > journal.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

No problem, I will post the log file the next time the bug occurs. Waiting, I would add that the "m" key on my keyboard is broken. I had to deactivate it to avoid having mmmmmmmmmm everywhere. I believe it is related in some way.

Lo and behold, the bug happened again. Here is the log file.

I must mention that this time, I was not able to enter the session, even by clicking "switch user" and clicking back to my profile. So I restarted my PC.

Thanks. I can't see obvious signs of a crash there but it does mention the Mesa "crocus" driver is in use. That is the correct driver but I expect you will hit bug 1972977 periodically, which would definitely cause the symptoms described here.

Bug 1972977 is fixed in Ubuntu 22.10 but not yet in 22.04.
