[hardy] numpad not working as expected after boot

This started a few weeks ago in hardy, it seems the behaviour of the numlock/numpad has been changed.

Expected behaviour: the computer starts with the numlock light on, and the numpad used as numerical/mathematical keys, and with the numlock light off the numpad used as navigation.
Actual behaviour: the computer starts with numlock light on, and the numpad is used as navigation, pressing the numlock key keeps the light on, but the numpad keys return to their expected numerical/mathematical behaviour. (Pressing a third time turns the light off, and returns to navigation)

To fix it on Hardy (If you have the problem) :
Go to :
1) System
2) Preferences
3) Keyboard (Tab: Mouse Keys)
4) Uncheck (Allow to control pointer using the keyboard).
This should fix the problem....!!

I have had this same problem for a long time now (on Hardy). I'm using a Logitech G15 keyboard. It's quite annoying when I expect to type a number, and instead send the cursor off to some other part of the screen.

'Allow to control the pointer using the keyboard' is already disabled for me, and I assume it always has been.

To clarify the issue, Num Lock starts in an ambiguous state. The Num Lock indicator is on while numpad behaviour reflects that expected if the indicator was off. Pressing Num Lock keeps the indicator on, and returns the numpad to its correct state. After this, Num Lock behaves itself.

this problem is also true in Hardy
under kdm login screen I have the same problem, numlock light does not reflect numpad status when I start my computer.

my keyboard is usb attached.

1. during boot process boot numlock light goes off then on
2. kdm starts : numpad does not work in numeric mode
3. I switch to console mode : numpad does not work in numeric mode

So at boot numlock light reflects the opposite of numpad state

4. I now push NUMLOCK once
5. numlock light stays on
6. numpad is now in correct numeric mode
7. I switch back to KDM : numlock light is switched OFF
8. numpad state is now correct with the numlock light (not numeric)

after that numpad and numlock light are synchronised

kernel 2.6.24-16-generic

This affects hardy latest.

My problem was fix by:

Thanks for the suggestion but this is not a fix, only a workaround.

This workaround does _not_ work for me since this option is already _unchecked_
on KDE

The workaround solved the problem for me.
I agree with PascalCavy that the problem still exists.

I can confirm this issue has been fixed.

I faced the same problem. Numlock doesn't work on ubunut OS.
Solution: press Shift + Num Lock
