comments: Please package the script available at http://counter.li.org/scripts/ Please also automatically ask user if he or she would like to register minimal details about his or her machine. Directly during, just after or preferably some days after the installation of Ubuntu. Also schedule a yearly automated update. This is in line with Linux Counter policy and will prevent the yearly reminder per email. Maybe this process can be merged some way with the user data one has to enter when installing Ubuntu, when relevant things like adding/removing users and installing/uninstalling certain services that can be registered at Linux Counter. Best would be to take a multi phase approach. first package this script and later see how to integrate this with Ubuntu system management.

justification: Implementing the above described functionality will provide better Linux statistics (and the Ubuntu share in that) and indirectly advocating both Linux and Ubuntu usage.
