audio low after updates

Bug Description

after updates of 2/8/08 audio is very low volume control works but max volume is too low , is the same in all apps , is worse with pulse audio than with oss but is too low no mater what combinaton of audio and mixer is used.

Have you tried checking the volume levels with alsamixer and PulseAudio volume control?

installed pavucontrol ,my default sound card is not
shown in "output devices" only device shown is set to
100% , no change except that system>prefs>sound set
to pulse audio server > test now produces a loud
sound , sound through apps still low. question if pavu
control is necessary for pulse audio why is it not
installed by default ?

It's not absolutely necessary, but it will be installed by default.

it was NOT installed by default I had to use synaptic
to install it.

I didn't say that it should be, but that it will be (in the final release, according to the cleanup-audio-jumble spec [1])

further info pavucontrol is listed as a "suggests" in
the dependencies of pulse audio . I went ahead and
installed all of the suggests and recomends now pulse
audio will not test connection refused pavucontrol
will not run connection refused

as of updates 2 march 2008 sound has returned to normal levels , you can mark this one closed .
