Bug Description

Ubuntu 8.04 alpha 4 i386 desktop CD

OK, I give up. How is the user supposed to format things ?

things = { floppy, USB flash/disc/key, optical media, hard drives, etc }

In the question it was suggested to use gparted, which I did. This is the result (text copied from the question):

In gparted (when I try to format the USB stick) I get an error dialog :

An error occurred while applying the operations
