Black line/square on top left corner

There's this weird looking rounded black square thing on the top left corner of my screen And have no idea what it is or how to get rid of it.
I've only just installed Ubuntu from the 7.10 cd and after installing amsn and the support for japanese input (Anthy?) I saw that thing there.
Any idea of what it is and how to get rid of it?

thanks for reporting! but since this bug has been reported a while ago
and not been touched since i dare to ask if it still is a problem. if it
still is, please file it against a specific package so the relevant
people will have a look at it...
