Invalid partitions

Bug Description

I attempted to install 7.10 on my laptop which has an outboard USB drive. While installing I didn't notice it was installing to the outboard drive(which cannot be use to boot). After the installation I checked the outboard drive properties which did not show any change. Using the "Disk Management" tool indicated two new unnamed partitions which I tried unsuccessfully to delete.
Partition Magic shows the whole disk drive to be bad although Windows XP accesses the drive without any problem. How can I restore the outboard drive to its original condition?

I found I could create a new partition in the allocated space using Disk Management, then deleting the partition and using Partition Magic recover the space.
